SCULPTED
Presented during Mexico City Art Week 2024, Sculpted brought together the work of acclaimed Mexican artist Jorge Yázpik and New York-based design studio Known Work. Anchored by a series of monumental sculptures carved from native wood and volcanic stone, the exhibition explored the relationship between sculpture, object, and artifact through a dialogue between two practices deeply rooted in material exploration.
Drawing from pre-Hispanic architectural forms, ceremonial objects, and the expressive potential of native materials, Yázpik’s work investigates the enduring relationship between form, memory, and place. Presented alongside Known Work’s inaugural Perceptions Collection, the exhibition created a conversation between sculptural and functional forms, examining how objects shape our experience of space and become vessels for cultural meaning.
Curated by Materia Studio, Sculpted positioned contemporary design within a broader discourse on materiality, craftsmanship, and the role of objects as artifacts of human experience.
