ALBERTO KALACH

For decades, architect Alberto Kalach has challenged conventional ideas of development, luxury, and the relationship between architecture and nature. His work proposes an alternative vision; one where buildings are conceived not as objects imposed upon a landscape, but as frameworks through which it can be more deeply experienced.

Interested in the ecological philosophy underpinning his practice, Materia Studio developed a multi-format editorial feature combining film, photography, and long-form conversation. Filmed between Kalach’s home and studio in Mexico City and Hotel Terrestre on the Oaxacan coast, Wild Gardens and Framed Landscapes explores the observations, values, and environmental thinking that continue to shape one of Latin America’s most influential architectural voices. Together, the film and editorial feature offer a portrait of a practice rooted in landscape, climate, and the belief that architecture can cultivate a deeper relationship with the natural world.
