French designer Fabien Cappello’s studio is in Guadalajara’s city center, surrounded by a myriad of workshops dedicated to specific artisanal or industrial processes. This is his playground, and it has undoubtedly permeated his work, not only in his production processes, but also in his exuberant color palette, materials and forms. Cappello began his own studio in London in 2010, creating commercial objects, commissions and public space furniture.

Offcut Plates is a project Cappello is undertaking for the Swedish brand Hem, curated by Modern Design Review magazine.  Recycling materials is a trademark gesture in Cappello’s work; for this project, he uses semi circular shapes and the leftovers of their cutting process to create 15 unique glass plates. After a joyful composition process the different pieces are fused together at high temperature twice over, yielding a glossy 3-dimensional finish.
